Instead of traditional folders, Music Tracker gives you more flexible tools to keep your library organized: Spaces, Tags, and Smart Lists.
1. Spaces
Spaces are like big containers where you can separate your collection.
- Example: create one Space for Vinyls, one for CDs, and another for Digital albums.
- You can also make a Space for Wishlist or Gifts if you prefer to separate them from owned albums.
- When you add a new album, you can assign it to the correct Space right away.
2. Tags
Tags let you add extra labels to your albums, so you can group them in any way you want.
- Example: add the tags Jazz, 90s, First Pressing, or Signed Copy.
- Tags work across Spaces, so an album in your Vinyl Space tagged with Jazz will still show up in your Jazz Smart List.
3. Smart Lists
Smart Lists are powerful because they update automatically based on filters you set.
- Example: “All albums tagged Jazz in my Vinyl Space” or “All albums added in 2024.”
- Once the list is created, every time you add a new album that matches the filter, it will appear there automatically.
Tips for organizing your collection
- Think of Spaces as the broad categories (formats, ownership type).
- Use Tags for flexible, custom groupings (genre, condition, where you bought it, who you got it from).
- Combine both in a Smart List for dynamic views. For example, “Vinyl tagged Jazz” or “CDs marked as Gifts.”
Troubleshooting
- If you don’t see a Smart List updating, double-check the filters: it may be that the album is in a different Space or missing the correct Tag.
- You can always edit or delete Smart Lists and create new ones without affecting your actual albums.
